Antique French Faience Lidded 'Soupière' or Soup Tureen. Circa mid to late 1800'
Beautiful soup tureen or soupière.
French; circa mid to late 1800's.
Traditionally used to keep soup warm and to serve from at the table.
White faience pottery with the classical artichoke leaves decal with a coiled artichoke stalk finial to the lid.
Handles to both sides of the tureen.
Stunning piece with age related imperfections but a beautiful deep crazing to the faience.
A fabulous centrepiece at any table.
Personally sourced from the Normandie region of France; renowned for it's faience pottery.
Approx. max. dims: H; 280mm, W: handle to handle: 320mm.
In good antique: as found condition. Some age related marks and as one might expect, a fissure to the lid and shown and a few nibbles throughout but sturdy with no signs of repair.
A totally functional piece of authentic French tableware.
This is an original antique and may well show signs of use and wear commensurate with age.
